hello there

Well, setting up a blog was not as hard as I thought it would be. When deciding what name to give this blog, I decided "finally volunteering" was more than appropriate. You see, being an international student in the U.S., I was unable to receive scholarships of any type, regardless of academic achivement, so time that could have gone towards volunteering was used to keep two jobs: one as a chemistry tutor and another as a retail sales associate.
Thankfully, I became a resident last year, and the scholarships I have received have done enough good in keeping me working one job, rather than two, while being a full time student at the University of St. Thomas.

So, with the free time I now have this semester, I hope I can find a volunteering spot to fufill the requirements of a Service Learning Assignment set up by my Cell Biology and Med Microbiology instructors, and hopefully more.
In case this is being read by more than just my instructors and/or fellow classmates, the purpose of the Service Learning Project is to:
Volunteer at an under-served clinic in the city of Houston for a total of 10 hours throughout the semester... [To] identify the top infectious diseases treated at the medical facility at which you volunteer, and come up with a brochure or hand-out designed to educate the patient on these diseases.

I have already emailed a couple of clinics. Hopefully I will get a response soon enough.
So, that's the plan for now. Feel free to comment; even if you do not have an account on this service I beleive leaving a post is quite easy.

Any luck finding a clinic to volunteer at? Need to have at least one post per week. And you are going to run out of time. Look forward to your next post this week. Dr.r.
